วันที่ 5 ธันวาคมของทุกปีเป็นวันดินโลก ถูกกำหนดขึ้นระหว่างการประชุมคณะกรรมการด้านเศรษฐกิจและการเงินของที่ประชุมสมัชชาสหประชาชาติ สมัยสามัญที่ 68 ณ สำนักงานใหญ่สหประชาชาติ นครนิวยอร์ก ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา เมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2556 และองค์การสหประชาชาติมีมติยอมรับให้วันนี้เป็นวันสำคัญสากลเพื่อเทิดพระเกียรติพระวิริยะอุตสาหะของพระบาทสมเด็จพระบรมชนกาธิเบศร มหาภูมิพลอดุลยเดชมหาราช บรมนาถบพิตร ทรงมีสายพระเนตรอันยาวไกลในการแก้ปัญหาเรื่องดินจนประสบผลสำเร็จและได้รับการยอมรับอย่างกว้างขวางในระดับสากล
Amazing Thailand ชวนไปเยี่ยมชมพิพิธภัณฑ์ดินที่ถือเป็นพิพิธภัณฑ์ดินแห่งแรกในประเทศไทย และได้รับการขนานว่าเป็นหนึ่งในสถานที่จัดแสดงเกี่ยวกับดินที่ทันสมัยและสมบูรณ์ที่สุดแห่งหนึ่งในเอเชีย การจัดแสดงด้านในแบ่งเป็นสัดส่วนเพื่อให้เข้าใจง่าย แม้ไม่มีความรู้พื้นฐานเรื่องดินมาก่อนก็สามารถเรียนรู้ได้อย่างสนุก
เมื่อก้าวสู่พื้นที่จัดแสดง เปรียบเสมือนการหลุดเข้าไปในโลกของห้องสมุดสามมิติที่เรียงรายด้วยหน้าตัดดินจำลอง (Soil Profile) ซึ่งถูกตัดมาจากผืนดินจริงทั่วประเทศ แท่งดินแต่ละแท่งมีความสูงเกือบเท่าตัวของมนุษย์ สีสันที่แตกต่างกันของแต่ละชั้นดิน (แดง น้ำตาล เทา) แฝงไปด้วยความลับอันน่าอัศจรรย์ ชั้นดินสีสนิมบ่งบอกถึงธาตุเหล็ก ชั้นดินสีเทาซีดแสดงว่าน้ำท่วมขังมานาน และการเรียงตัวของชั้นหินกรวดเล่าถึงความรุนแรงของน้ำป่าในอดีต

The “Soil Museum” Classroom: The Treasure of Thailand 📖
The 5th of December is designated as World Soil Day. This was established during the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly’s Second Committee (Economic and Financial) at the UN Headquarters in New York in 2013 (B.E. 2556). The UN passed a resolution accepting this day as a significant international observance to honor the tireless efforts of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great (King Rama IX). His Majesty demonstrated profound foresight in successfully addressing soil issues, gaining widespread international recognition for his work.
Amazing Thailand invites you to visit the Soil Museum, recognized as the first of its kind in Thailand and renowned as one of the most modern and comprehensive soil exhibition spaces in Asia. The internal exhibition is clearly segmented for easy understanding, allowing visitors, even those with no prior knowledge of soil, to learn in an engaging way.
Upon entering the exhibition space, it’s like stepping into a three-dimensional library lined with simulated Soil Profiles, which are cross-sections cut from actual earth across the country. Each soil column is almost the height of a person. The varying colors of each soil layer (red, brown, grey) harbor amazing secrets:
– Rust-colored soil layers indicate the presence of iron.
– Pale grey soil layers show prolonged waterlogging.
– The arrangement of gravel layers narrates the intensity of past flash floods.
Seeing these simulated soil profiles allows us to deeply understand that the soil in each area has distinct characteristics and needs. The soil in Thung Kula Ronghai (Weeping Kula Field) cannot yield the same results as the fertile soil in the Chao Phraya River Basin. It was due to His Majesty’s vast vision that he thoroughly studied the soil, enabling him to bestow the most suitable and targeted solutions upon farmers in every locality across the country.
