While the origin of the name “Phi Ta Khon” is uncertain, there are various tales and names, such as “Phi Tam Khon” (ghosts that follow people), “Phi Khon” (mask ghost), and “Phi Thon,” which all point to the diverse cultural roots of the local community.
The Phi Ta Khon Festival is one of Thailand’s most unique folk traditions. It is grandly held every year in Dan Sai District, Loei Province. This year, the event will take place from June 28-30. Get ready to witness a spectacular procession of Phi Ta Khon masks, folk performances, and activities that deeply reflect the way of life of the people in Isan.

การละเล่นผีตาโขนถือเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของ “งานบุญหลวง” ซึ่งเป็นพิธีกรรมสำคัญทางพระพุทธศาสนา ที่สื่อถึงความเชื่อ ความศรัทธา และการรวมพลังของชุมชน แม้จะไม่มีหลักฐานแน่ชัดถึงที่มาของชื่อ “ผีตาโขน” แต่ก็มีเรื่องเล่าและชื่อเรียกหลากหลาย เช่น “ผีตามคน”, “ผีโขน”, “ผีโถน” และ “ผีตาโขน” ที่บ่งบอกถึงรากเหง้าทางวัฒนธรรมอันหลากหลายของท้องถิ่น
เทศกาลผีตาโขนเป็นหนึ่งในประเพณีพื้นบ้านที่มีเอกลักษณ์ที่สุดของไทย จัดขึ้นอย่างยิ่งใหญ่ ณ อำเภอด่านซ้าย จังหวัดเลย เป็นประจำทุกปี โดยในปีนี้ งานจะจัดขึ้นระหว่างวันที่ 28–30 มิถุนายน เตรียมพบกับขบวนแห่หน้ากากผีตาโขนสุดตระการตา การแสดงพื้นบ้าน และกิจกรรมที่สะท้อนวิถีชีวิตชาวอีสานอย่างลึกซึ้ง
